FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

1. CAN I COME ON THE GVC COURSE IF I HAVE NO PREVIOUS DRONE FLYING EXPERIENCE?

Yes, the theory course would be an excellent way to learn about the rules which govern drone flying as well as everything else connected with drone aviation. Once you’ve passed the exam you can take your time before completing the flight assessment. We can teach you how to fly or you might prefer an experienced friend to do that part, it’s up to you. Whichever way, we will fully brief you on what’s expected so there are no unexpected surprises.

2. WHAT HAPPENS IF I DON’T MANAGE TO PASS THE THEORY EXAM FIRST TIME?

That’s very straightforward, we will let you have another go free of charge. Before that we can run through the areas that you had issues with and make sure you’re up to speed on it all. We always aim to allow our candidates to retake on the same day if possible.

3. WHAT HAPPENS IF I DON’T MANAGE TO PASS THE FLIGHT ASSESSMENT FIRST TIME?

The same answer as above, we’ll let you have another go free of charge, on the same day if possible. It may be that you were a bit nervous or were just having a bad flight. It could be that you need to go away and practice a bit more before having another go but we’ll help you out with clear direction.

4. CAN I COME TO PROFESSIONAL DRONE TRAINING IF I DON’T OWN A DRONE?

Yes, of course, you can borrow one of ours.

5. IS THERE A WEIGHT LIMIT FOR DRONES?

Yes your GVC is valid for drones up to 25kg and your Operational Authorisation as of 2020.

6. How long will it take to get my GVC/A2 CofC?

You can complete the theory course and exam over two days and providing you pass the exam and the weather holds we conduct the assessment at the end of the second day. So ideally two days but we may have to go into a third to complete the flight assessment if theweather isn’t kind to us. You must have completed your Operations Manual before the flight assessment and we’re here to help with that. Once you’ve finished the above you apply to the CAA and that’s that. At the moment the CAA turnaround is very quick about a week or two although it may be longer. Alternatively use our online learning option and study at your own pace.

7. HOW MUCH WILL THIS COST ME IN TOTAL AND ARE THERE ANY HIDDEN EXTRAS?

Please check current charges as they change frequently.
Our GVC costs £499 or £599 if combined with A2 CofC (NO VAT) and that includes the theory course, exam, help with preparing your Operations Manual and the flight assessment. It also includes lunch and refreshments during the theory course and free insurance for your flight assessment. No hidden extras there then !! The only other cost will be from the CAA who currently charge £253 for the initial application, this is renewable yearly at a current cost of £190.

8. DO I HAVE TO STUDY BEFORE I COME TO PROFESSIONAL DRONE TRAINING FOR THE GVC COURSE?

No, we will teach you everything you need to know during the course. We supply all you need. Bring only yourself, your drone, if you have one, and preferably a laptop or tablet to download and use the apps which we guide you through. Please make sure you have completed the CAA Drone and Model Aircraft Registration and Education Scheme (DAMARES) before coming and bring you Operator and Flyer IDs with you.
